Here's the thing with this deviation: it's supposed to be an improved version of [link] which has received some attention lately... I'm not 100% satisfied with 130509 because the cubes overlap (which I find ugly) and the colors are a bit too bleak for my taste. The texture of the wall is kinda lame too.
I fixed all this issues with this deviation (the one you're looking right now) and was very satisfied with the result BUT I realized that the texture I used for the wall and the displacement map of the wall weren't big enough for print resolution, which bummed me out a little bit. Anyway, I decided to fix that, only to find that my pc can't handle a print resolution render with that kind of displacement map... I also wanted to increase the iterations of the object, which also, was impossible to handle for my pc.
weeeeell... maybe I'll go back to this deviation when I have better tools, but for now I'll have to settle with this one.
I've seen this one in my inbox a couple times and I knew that as soon as I got to it, I would have to add it to my favourites immediately.
This piece is terrific. The texture and colour of the wall work perfectly with the cubes. I love how the cubes get naturally darker as they get closer to the wall, it really emphasizes the depth. The long vertical proportion also works wonders for the composition.
Wow thanks man! As you can see many people had a problem with the cubes, but their problem was exactly what I wanted to achieve with the piece... thanks for faving it!!
I do agree that the cubes in the very foreground look very out of place, but I think that can't really be helped with the way the rest of the fractal is. That said, I love the texture and basic shape this fractal has over the previous one. I'd love to see the fractal pattern continue further up the wall or to the right, but it looks pretty good as-is.
This piece is featured here [link] . If you would like it removed, send me a note, I will remove it. Nice work!

Expertly executed.

Good one!
